EARLY REMITTANCE LISTS: NAMES LISTS IN JDC DATABASE

The site provides a description of lists and a list of names presently searchable in the “Names Database”. The list is fluid with periodic additions.

“The purpose of JDC transmissions was to deliver personal remittances to those areas in Europe and Palestine where normal transmission agencies were incapable of functioning due to war conditions. Relatives from the West were able to deposit small amounts of money.. for JDC to remit to their relatives overseas. The remittance lists include both the names and addresse of remitters an beneficiaries…lists from Poland.., Romania, Palestine, & Russia”.

1846 ROHATYN TOWN CADASTRAL MAP

A terrific interactive map, “House Finder:Rohatyn Town Cadastral Map 1846” can be viewed at : http://www.rsrg.org/rohatyn/map/hnl/zzz_rhlz7.html.  According to Marla Raucher Osborn, it was created by the Rohatyn Shtetl Research Group. Rohatyn was formerly part of Galicia but is presently in the Ukraine.
