From: Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw PL

[AGAD:Archiwum Glowne Akt Dawnych w Warszawie PL]

agad.gov.pl/inwentarze/Mojz300x.xml

"This is an open collection and currently consists of 4170 archival units from the years 1789-1943. The oldest book...is the death register from the religious community of Kamionka Strumilowa from the years 1789-1876 (file # 388)...the youngest unit is an index to the register of weddings from the religous community of Tarnow from the years 1936-1943 (file # 1429)...."

The original records may be written in German, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Latin and/or Yiddish.

You can use an online web translator, if necessary, to read the introduction and the index, but not for the records themselves. [I used "Immersive Translate For Safari 4" extension to translate a web page in Safari on Mac] The introduction includes the history & rules of the record-keeping, content descriptions, geo-terms, bibliography, etc.

In the Table of Contents/inventories, there are links: galeria ze skanami, which mean Gallery with scans. When you click on these links, you are taken to the original records described in that particular inventory. Missing links mean that the record(s) is not available at this time.

Here is an example [already translated]: TARNOW File #1429

Clicking on the link, brings you to this page:

  2. you need to look at the alphabetical listings [under heading labeled "Hasla Geograficzne"]
to see what is available....remember that these registers only cover a specific area of Poland/Galicia.
