Expulsion
of Jews from the Border Area
The area was “…under special supervision of
border guards and customs officials agencies to combat smuggling…in the case of
charges of engaging in smuggling, may be evicted from the border strip…The
Government of the Russian Empire considered Jews more than other people, prone
to engage in smuggling, resulting in…specific limitation on the right of
residence in the border area, in the acquisition of real estate, etc….”
