1910 VOLOGDA: JEWISH RESIDENTS
IN VOLOGDA PROVINCE
(from Vologda Provincial Gazette—1910, #34)
The residents’ list is long and is in
Russian. It begins at the subtopic, "список проживающих вологодской губер евреев" ("List
of Jews Living in Vologda Gubernia").
If you don’t read Russian why not try your
hand at manually translating the information by using a virtual typewriter and
typing what you see in the article. You can use Google’s:
As you type in Russian (or any other
language) in the left box, you will see the translation, in the language of
your choice, in the box on the right.
One of the difficulties in trying to read old
Russian publications is that some
of the Russian characters have not been in use since 1918 (ex. “i”, “v”); and a
few seem to be pronunciation aides. You can type into Lexilogos’ virtual
multilingual keyboard, then copy/paste the Russian word or words into the
Google box mentioned above, in order to translate. (Lexilogos has more letters available than Google).
