I am trying to trace a man named Jacob Tauf to Mogilev. That name is the American spelling, but I believe he died in or near Mogilev some time in the late 1890s or very early 1900s, leaving a wife and two very young children. His widow and those children eventually migrated to America. The surname back then could have been spelled Tov, Tuv or some other variation, rather than Tauf. His first name could have been spelled Yankel or Yankov, or also another variation. It's been difficult finding records.
