1936-1939 LATVIAN JEWS: SPANISH
CIVIL WAR
("Latvian
Jews Fighting Nazism")
LATVIAN JEWS IN THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR
Background:
According to an article, "Latvians in the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939: "...many Latvians from Latvia and the Soviet Union who came to Spain to support the republicans. For the most part they were on the communist side. Latvian authoritarian regime claimed neutrality and tried to prevent Latvian volunteers from reaching Spain. However, there are many stories about Latvians and Latvian Jews and Latvians from Soviet Union who took direct part in the war." http://latvianhistory.com/2013/11/30/latvians-in-the-spanish-civil-war-1936-1939/
