1941-1944-WWII DEAD/MISSING SOLDIERS: THOSE WHO DIED IN KARELIA
There are more than 130,300 names of soldiers (Jews and
non-Jews) from throughout the USSR on this part of the Russian site, OBD. The
list includes names, DOB/year, military rank, position, birth place, date of
death, place of burial, scanned supporting documents, place of recruitment,
person notified of death, last place of service, etc. Not all information is
available for all individuals. There is advanced search available, but I
believe that it must be done in Cyrillic (Russian): http://obd-pobeda.karelia.ru/search.
On this blog, I have included some names (of Jews/possible Jews),
birth date/years, birth places, dates of death, some relatives who received
notifications. Please see the website for further information—you may click on the
names (on the website) for pages with documentation.

SIEGE OF LENINGRAD: CHILD EVACUEES AND SCHOOL EMPLOYEES (#1)
Children were evacuated from Leningrad during the Nazi blockade of the city. The blockade began in June, 1941 and ended by April, 1943. According to a Russian language article, evacuation to the Molotov area (presently, the Perm region), Chernushka began during Summer, 1941. The children arrived by train, after first being transported by ship; they were often ill on arrival. They were placed in villages and settlements within the locale. According to the information from the site, http://chayk.u-education.ru/det_dom/dislocacia.html, 78 children's orphanages and 50 kindergartens accepted about 10,000 young children. A map showing the location within the Perm area of the boarding schools is available on the website. (It was first published in the "Star", a regional newspaper, in 1995).
