  1. Thanks for posting this! I think the date may be incorrect, however. Elizavetgrad did not exist in 1748. Paul I was not czar until 1796. The first Jews reportedly arrived sometime 1797-1799. Could this list be 1798, perhaps? I can't yet find when a large fire happened there. (The link to the source of the list no longer works)

    1. Hi Ray, Thanks so much for reading this post & for the corrections----The fire was, as you correctly stated, in 1798, not in 1748...either I committed a typo or the original had the error. I found another article, written in Russian, that describes the offer of compensation, via a 10 year loan without interest, by Emperor Alexander to the merchants & townspeople who suffered ruin from the fire.
